Information and Tips
Education and Schools
The two options for parents to send their children
to school in Spain are using the local Spanish school or a private school.
The
Local schools are very good with international students as they
allocate them a “Buddy” who is a foreign student
but is fluent in Spanish, and will help the new student to join
in. The Spanish state education system is excellent and free of
charge. Any qualifications obtained are internationally recognized.
There
are of course private Spanish schools but most of the students
will generally attend an international private school, which means
the classes are given in English with Spanish language classes
separately.
Regarding Spanish local schools the system is the same
as in the UK, the local schools are attached to a particular area.
The Private
international schools are not attached to a particular area and
children can collect the buses from wherever they live.
Health Services
Health Services, although something you may not
have thought about, is an important area. If you should ever require
these services, purchasing medicines over the counter is generally
much cheaper and more freely available in Spain. Additionally the
hospital facilities, whether they are private or public are very
well serviced, clean and well maintained.
Food
Spain is a melting pot of cultures, a place whose gastronomy
constitutes one of the richest manifestations of its historical
legacy. There have been many civilizations that have left their
mark in the Spanish art of cooking and eating, with their traditional
flavours and techniques. The climate diversity yields a great variety
of products that are the basis of their diet, making Spain one
of the healthiest in the world, according to the nutrition experts.
Certainly, Spain does have a privileged gastronomy.
Leisure
It’s all here! Water sports, cinemas, bowling, cycling
to name just a few. Depending on what you feel like doing, it’s
generally within walking distance or a short drive away. As a whole,
the mixture of cultures provides a wonderful range of activities
for all nationalities and generations.
Fiesta
Jumping over fires to leave any bad spirits behind and dancing
Flamenco are just some of the customs that are part of these
festivals. Nightclubs, Irish bars and live music are also in
abundance as alternatives to the Spanish theme. However, no matter
where you are, if you can make the following with a big jug and
plenty of ice, your own parties and BBQ’s will always go
down with a bang!
Sangria: Large Jug, Ice, fresh fruit (best with
peaches and oranges). Red wine, sugar, orangeade and gin. Mix
to your own Taste.
